The MUST-HAVE training course for employment consultants has arrived!  

According to the NESA Employment Services Workforce Report (2018), a lack of training, support, and qualifications for frontline workers is having a significant impact on the industry.  

Here are some of the hard facts about employment services: 

  • 64% of frontline workers have no formal training or qualifications 
  • On average, frontline workers only stay in the role for 3 years 
  • Caseloads are high – 148 clients for every 1 consultant.  
  • 8% of the employment services industry takes stress leave annually  

And here’s the big one… 

Consultant turnover is at 32.8% – that’s too high for an industry built on helping people find employment!  

Qualifications specific to the role are scarce, and those that do exist are ineffective when it comes to influencing and creating real and lasting behaviour change. And with the changes coming as a part of Enhanced Services in the NESM, there’s never been a more important time to give consultants the professional development they desperately need.   

The bottom line – employment consultants need a new set of skills. They need specific, tailored and targeted skills that will help them shift their clients from disengaged and disadvantaged to empowered and employed.  

They need coaching skills.

For the last six months, I’ve been working with a company in the USA called Workforce180 to develop our Job Coach Certification for the American workforce industry.  

Workforce180 deliver an online Case Management training program, and they have worked with Dr Beverly Ford to create two courses designed to give frontline workers foundational case management skills. Dr Ford is the most recognised workforce industry expert when it comes to case management.  She has travelled across the US for more than 20 years, assisting workforce organisations and their staff members with utilising best practices to achieve desired outcomes. 

I am incredibly humbled and proud to have been asked to collaborate with Workforce180 and Dr Ford to create Case Management III (Becoming a Job Coach). It’s so exciting to see our Job Coach Certification online and available to frontline workers in the US.
