Bouncing into New Zealand

Bouncing into New Zealand

Bounce has taken that next big step and headed into new territory! On the 12th of June, Maria was invited to run a series of workshops for Employment Consultants in Auckland and Hawkes Bay, New Zealand, focusing on skills to help engage disengaged youth.

“One of the best sessions I’ve been to in a long while. Maria was an amazing facilitator” – Christine Manson, Attendee
“Loved it. It was awesome. I really enjoyed the body language stuff and about VAK. I think I could get better at these and use these in my work.” – Rosie Whiaitiri, Attendee

This is an incredible step for Bounce and we couldn’t be more excited!

On the back of her New Zealand trip, Maria has just returned from America, having attended the 3 day Geographic Solutions, Workforce Technology Conference in Monterey, California. Maria was invited speak and discuss Engaging the Disengaged through Emotional Intelligence and Online Strategies. Tech and Marketing nerd, Nettie, was also lucky enough to be invited along for her first trip out of the country, which she was pretty happy about! Maria’s talk had a great response from everyone and Bounce has been invited back for next year’s conference in Florida.

While having extensive experience in training, assessment and people management, Josh can also play 10 different types of instruments (10!?), delve into the inner workings of the mind with a love of psychology and raise 3 kids all at the same time… he can’t solve a Rubix Cube though, not even with instructions. That doesn’t stop him trying because he doesn’t shy away from a challenge! Thanks for your dedication, Josh!

Gforce & Life Skills

Gforce & Life Skills

Life Skills is our passion, it’s what we do, and so when we get asked to run a pure Life Skills program we jump up and say “yes please!”. The inspirational people at Gforce, Geelong, locked in a solid 2 weeks of pure Life Skills for 10 lucky job seekers. Gforce are an employment solutions based business, focused on matching employers to job seekers in order to create sustainable outcomes. Last year Gforce won a four year Australian Government contract to run Transition to Work, an initiative focused on educating youth to assist them with gaining employment, and they asked Bounce to step in and give them a hand.

For 2 weeks our very excited Bounce Trainer, Linda Pierson, took the Transition to Work group under her wing and taught them everything from Rapport to Resumes, making sure they got the full range of valuable Life and Employability Skills.

Our Life Skills programs are where we started way back in 2006, teaching the disengaged motivation, goal setting and communication to help give back that spark that may have been lost somewhere along the way. Eleven years later and our programs are better than ever; real skills, fresh insights, genuine outcomes and support for those who need it.

Across two days, Bounce supported the overall Employment Systems Group and the Online Engagement and Learning Team (a sub-section of the Employment Systems Group) with strategic planning in their visions for the future.

“I had not expected the team to reach the conclusions they did. Very productive, great at drawing the team out and focusing on the joint goals.”

Leadership in Tennant Creek

Leadership in Tennant Creek

Once again Maria is jet setting off around the country delivering RSAS leadership training to those in remote communities (don’t know about RSAS? Click here!). First stop was Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory. Maria has just spent 2 days in the town speaking with remote school attendance officers and running a workshop on leadership to help provide professional development to those who may not usually get the opportunity.

20 participants were in attendance and shared stories of how they found ways to engage with the kids and get them to school. Maria was also joined by two other trainers and together they delivered leadership strategies to help them continue to make a difference within the community.

Tennant Creek is only the beginning! Across April and May Maria will also be training in Perth (WA), Halls Creek (WA) and Katherine (NT) with many more training dates and locations to come. For more updates as they happen, head to our RSAS Project Page. We’ll be keeping you posted every step of the way!

World stage beckons for Bounce following decade of skills delivery

World stage beckons for Bounce following decade of skills delivery

With humble beginnings in Maryborough, Victoria, Bounce started with one woman’s passion for helping people.

Maria Smith, Founder and CEO of Bounce Australia, started working with local Jobseekers in 2006, going door to door to the Job Network Agencies (now jobactive), offering her customised 8 week life skills program. 10 years on and Bounce has grown from a local passion to an international sensation of life skills training and employer education.

It was quickly realised that Bounce was a program not to be underestimated with engagement and employment statistics reaching new highs after jobseekers gained the real life and employability skills and tools that has made Bounce famous. Gradually the Bounce team grew larger and larger with new staff and trainers joining the ranks.

“For me it wasn’t just a job, I wanted to work for Bounce; I wanted to be a part of this amazing thing that was helping me and everyone around me. So Maria hired me and let me learn what it was to work and grow professionally. Bounce literally changed my entire life and I would not be where I am today without Bounce and Maria.”

Says Nettie, one of Bounce’s first participants and employees. Nettie still works full time for Bounce to this day.

As the Bounce team grew, courses expanded across Victoria with accredited life skills and non-accredited business development programs in different locations across Australia. In 2009, The Bounce Program was fully endorsed by mental health expert Dr. John Mendoza and in 2011, Maria released her first book “The Guide to Getting the Job You Want”. By now Maria was well on her way to expanding into the USA and in 2013, Maria was invited to the White House to consult with President Obama’s head of innovation to discuss Bounce addressing unemployment rates in America. By 2014, Bounce launched its international pilot program in Worcester, Massachusetts. Since then, Bounce continues to run programs across Australia and in the USA with plans to expand their reach.

“It’s an amazing milestone for Bounce. For me it’s always been about the “why”. Why do we do what we do? And the answer is – to inspire lives. If it doesn’t meet that simple rule, we just don’t do it. I believe everyone should have access to soft skills and employability skills. Now, more than ever, employers are calling out for this and Bounce has been that solution for 10 years and will continue to be that”

say’s business owner and Director, Maria Smith

On Wednesday the 15th of June, Bounce held a morning tea at their head office in Maryborough to celebrate the ten years working in the industry. With over 50 people in attendance the day was full of fun and lots of laughter. Attendees for the morning tea include Member for Ripon, Louise Staley; Andrew Gibbs, the Assistant Director for the Department of Social Services and Central Goldfields Shire Councillor, Paula Nixon.

So what’s next for Bounce? Kelly Mason, Bounce’s General Manager, had this to say

“Right now, there are a lot of things in the pipeline. We’re looking at some really big projects that have a local focus and we are taking steps to expand our work in remote communities and the delivery of corporate training across all sectors. The future of Bounce is looking bright and we’re excited to see what the next 10 years bring.”

10 Years of Bounce!

10 Years of Bounce!

Bounce is officially 10 years old!

To celebrate, over the next few weeks, we’ll be taking a look at all things Bounce. With everything from flashbacks to embarrassing happy snaps even we’d forgotten about. You’ll learn things about Bounce that you didn’t even realise you wanted to know! So sit back and enjoy the ride, we know we have!

Monday the 16th of May, 2016

Let’s get started with the very first Bounce newspaper article in the Maryborough Advertiser! This one is from 2007 and I tell you what, Maria hasn’t aged a day!

Wednesday the 18th of May, 2016

Who remembers the original Bounce logo?
Every company’s branding has to start somewhere and in 2006 Bounce’s branding started here… thankfully a few years later it left here (sorry Maria). Since the original blue balls and 80’s 3D text, Bounce’s branding has had a few makeovers but as we all know, it doesn’t matter what you look like, it’s what’s on the inside that counts!

Friday the 20th of May, 2016

There is no way we can celebrate Bounce without celebrating the amazing woman who made it all happen. Maria is without a doubt the most dedicated, kind hearted and energetic woman Bounce ever could have asked for.

Once Maria gets an idea in her head there’s no stopping her and in 2006 Bounce was that big idea. She built the company from the ground up making it an international success in just 10 short years and inspiring over 10,000 lives in the process. Thank you Maria for continuing to be brilliant every single day!

Monday the 23rd of May, 2016

Over the years there has been a huge amount of practical jokes go on in our Bounce office – all work and no play makes Bounce a dull company.

We’ve woken Lachlan up by pretending the server was on fire, we’ve come back from meetings to see Sandy and Leanne had covered our desks in glasses of water, but the one that takes the cake was Lachlan covering Nettie’s desk in tin foil. There’s never a dull day at Bounce!

Check out Lachys tin foil montage!

Wednesday the 25th of May, 2016

We promised you’d learn things you never needed to know, and here they are! 10 weird, wonderful and completely useless facts about Bounce! Enjoy!

Friday the 27th of May, 2016

This Friday we look at the Bounce pocket rocket herself – Our very own General Manager, Kelly Mason!

If Maria’s the ideas woman, then Kelly’s the force of nature behind her, making it all happen. There is literally nothing this woman can’t do – Seriously, I think if we told her to bend spoons with her mind, she’d figure out a way to do it. So this Friday, take some time out to tip your cap in the direction of the very special, Special-K.

Monday the 30th of May, 2016

Send Bounce a Happy Birthday video and feature in our 10 year montage!!!

Wednesday the 1st of June, 2016

We really do have an insane amount of fun at Bounce but behind all the pranks and stupid photos, we work our butts off every day to make a difference to other people’s lives. So in the spirit of our tenth birthday, we’d like to make at least 1 serious post to prove that we’re not just here for our good looks and personality.

Bounce was created 10 years ago to help others be the best they can be by providing guidance and support personally and professionally. So why are we still here today? Because we’re damn good at what we do. The proof is in the statistics.

Friday the 3rd of June, 2016

Urban dictionary defines Matt as:
“An Ancient Greek translation for “eternal god”. It is believed that anyone that holds this name has a great level of skill and ability to perform any task asked of him. Men possessing this name are also greatly skilled at golf.”

We don’t know anything about that last bit and usually we refer to him as “that bloke that is permanently driving around Victoria with a phone taped to his head”

This is Matt, our National Business Manager. He lives, breaths and talks Bounce non-stop. The man knows his stuff and today we thank him for the countless hours he has put into making Bounce a success… Terrible at formatting though.

Monday the 6th of June, 2016

If you have been fortunate enough to see Maria speak you will know she is extremely animated in her delivery and the camera can sometimes capture her in some awkward moments in time. While scrolling through our media files, we came across this little gem… *giggle*

Are you ready to put words in Maria’s mouth? We want to get your most TASTEFUL caption for this pic (and we realise this may not be easy). Post below and give us a laugh on this Monday afternoon!

Friday the 10th of June, 2016

These 2 members of the Bounce family obviously need no introduction, however we’ll introduce them anyway, just reading their names is a gift to all. Nettie Smith and Lachlan Hickey are possibly the greatest employees to ever have walked through the Bounce doors – nay! Any door!

Nettie encompasses the spirit of design! She makes Sagmeister look like a 3 year old with an etch-a-sketch. She spends her days being perfect and fabulous in every way. (… and in no way wrote this Facebook post)
Lachlan, while not being quite as good as Nettie, is still pretty good. He makes email scammers quake with fear and men bow down just to touch his feet. There is nothing this man doesn’t know; Wikipedia has him on speed dial.

Tuesday the 14th of June, 2016

Ok, we’re nearly done paying tribute to everyone that makes Bounce great but we left this one until last because, we think you’ll agree, it’s the best one of all.

There is no way Bounce could be where it is today without the people who are out there every day, inspiring lives and making a difference; our wonderful Bounce Trainers.

Every day they take people under their wings, teach them to aspire to be the best they can be and encourage everyone they come in contact with to live life the way they truly want. So today we say thank you to all our trainers, past and current.

Thank you Donna, Lee, Brenda, Jade, Chrissy, Kate, Jane, Rebecca, Christine, Leanne, Michael, Sharon C. Joseph, Abbie, Jan, Bruce, Mark, Natalie, Michelle, Amanda, Lisa, Belinda, Deborah, Liz, Blazenka, Rachel, Avril, Bec, Dani, Pamela, Stefan, Tracy , Maggie, Sharon P. Linda, Melitta, Phil, David, Nissrine, Ismail, Armando, Jackie.

Wednesday the 15th of June, 2016

It’s been a HUGE day for Bounce. We’ve had our big ten year party (which went fantastically), tried out our first live broadcast (which didn’t go so fantastically), and got to play our 10 year flashback video, which you will all get to see on Friday!

But for now, here are some happy snaps from today. Enjoy!

Stay tuned for updates of Bounce’s look back on ten years!

Next update on Friday the 17th of June, 2016
