Better Life for Low-Income Earners

Better Life for Low-Income Earners

Mobile phone plans are not an easy thing to keep up with, especially when you’re going through a bit of a rough patch financially. Even the minimum payment plans give you barely enough call time to phone your mum on her birthday, let alone call employers to find out about job opportunities.

Well, one amazing company put their hand in the air and said “We’ve had enough!” – this is how Better Life Mobile was born.

Now, before I go any further, I want to say that this is not a sales pitch. Bounce is not sponsored by Better Life Mobile in any way. This article is simply the result of our own research. We just thought it was a great idea and we wanted to help with those wallet-emptying phone bills that come in every month.

Better Life Mobile was created with the unemployed and low-income earners specifically in mind. It is an Australian owned company, who offer low cost, no risk phone plans with the help of state and federal administrators, financial councillors and welfare organisations. Basically, take everything you know about phone companies and throw it out the window because Better Life is actually here to help.

Their plans range from $18 a month with unlimited text and calls and 1 GB of data, all the way up to $35 per month with unlimited text and calls and 9 GB of data – which is incredible! They have the same coverage as Telstra, they don’t charge late, set up or cancellation fees, and once you hit your allowance, they cap you, so no hidden usage cost.

Better Life Mobile provides their service to everyone, so if you’re wanting to save a bit of money this year or know someone that this company could really help, check out www.betterlifemobile.com.au and find out more.

Kelly’s Back!

The incredible Kelly is officially back in the office! As of the 5th of February Kelly has been back on board the Bounce train after her three months of maternity leave with little Max. Kelly is once again available during normal business hours, however, she will be switching between her home office and work office so that she can spend time with the little bundle of joy. We can’t express how happy we are to have Kelly back, and we’re pretty pleased about the visits from Max too! If you need to get in contact with Kelly about anything Bounce related, you can contact her on 0419 326 694 or via her email kelly@bounceaustralia.com

Meet the New Team Member

We would like everyone to officially welcome our newest Bounce Team member, Shania! Fresh out of school and full of motivation, Shania took the initiative to walk through our front doors and ask if there was any work available – the rest is history! Shania will be starting out by helping around the office, getting to know what we do and supporting every team member with a range of different jobs. Shania is very interested in event organising, planning and scheduling which is great for us because we need someone other than Kelly to keep us all in line! Welcome to the team Shania, you’re going to do great!

Trainer of the Month

This month we get to say thank you to a trainer who has made such a huge impact to all of his participants. Through his positivity, motivation and incredible skills as a trainer, Leon McAsey has become one of Bounces’ most valued members.

Leon spent his early years as a ballroom & Latin Dance Instructor and perfected his profession over 15 years, resulting in him owning and operating his own business in Melbourne right up until 2010. Missing the quiet country life, Leon sold his business and returned to northern Victoria, where he purchased a small farm. He went on to work with Corrections Victoria delivering CGEA Certificates I, II and III (specialising in working with disengaged and disadvantaged youths).

Nowadays, Leon spends his time working with his Bounce Participants, cracking “dad” jokes and sharing his incredible life experiences. Thank you, Leon, for everything you bring to your role, we are so proud to call you one of our own.

Tip of the Month

“If you’re not in the right mindset a job can take ten times longer than it should. Walk away and do something else that gets you motivated then come back to it and try again.”

Oh hi, 2018!

Oh hi, 2018!

Well, here we are! We’ve eaten our body weight in Christmas ham, set off our fair share of party poppers to welcome the New Year and caught up on some much-needed rest and relaxation, and now we’re ready to get cracking on everything that’s happening in 2018! We’ve hit the ground running this month, preparing for our accredited program launch alongside ACE Community Colleges in Queensland – which we’re super excited for! Accredited job seeker programs have already started running across Victoria, and corporate bookings are filling in fast!

In other news, Kelly will be returning from Maternity Leave on Monday the 5th of February, although she will not be working exclusively within the office. Kelly will be splitting her days between the Bounce office and her own personal home office. Hopefully, she will bring along little Max as well!

From everyone here at Bounce, we hope you’ve had an amazing break, and we look forward to working with you in 2018!

Upskilling Trainers for the New Year

Last weekend trainers took time out of their busy schedules to make the trek to Maryborough for a 2-day intensive training. 25 trainers spent their Saturday and Sunday with Founder & CEO Maria Smith, building on their coaching skills, discovering cutting edge techniques for even better outcomes and getting the opportunity to spend time with each other.

The weekend was an incredible experience. Armed with these new skills and techniques, trainers will be more effective than ever in engaging job seekers and motivating them to do their very best! Thank you to all the trainers who were able to attend this incredible weekend.

“A very special thank you to you Maria for dedicating your time, effort, kind words, knowledge, wisdom, skills and magic! A very memorable 2 days!” – Abby Eden, Bounce Trainer

Stop Putting Your Dreams on the Back-Burner – 5 Tips to get Focused

We all dream. Images, ideas, emotions and sensations happen in our mind involuntarily, while we sleep. It’s also been suggested that dreams are a connection to our unconscious mind and that they manifest from our deepest desires and anxieties. Even though we can’t control our sleeping dreams, we can control the dreams and goals we have while we are awake – it’s staying focused on these dreams that is the tricky part.

Trainer of the Month

January is the month of new beginnings and looking to the future, so who better to feature this month than our very own Lorraine Whittingham. Lorraine’s story is one of true inspiration and comes with a great message. Originally living in Maryborough (the home of Bounce), Lorraine moved to Melbourne to start fresh but unfortunately found herself unemployed for 12 months. After participating in some programs through her jobactive provider and gaining some part-time work, Lorraine chanced upon someone through a long series conversations, the lovely Bounce Trainer Niss. It wasn’t long before Lorraine made her way right back to Maryborough for her Bounce training, and soon after began running programs at the very same jobactive provider who had supported her throughout her unemployment. Talk about full circle!

“I tell my participants to get clear on what they want and then tell as many people as they can because you never know what results from simple conversations!” – Lorraine Whittingham

Tip of the Month

“Kick off the new year with a motivated mind. Grab that task you’ve been putting off for months & get it done. It will take a weight off your mind, & you’ll feel great!”

HUGE Announcement for 2018!

Before we take a look at the year gone by, we wanted to let you all in on the big news for next year, and when we say big we mean BIG! Of course, we will be looking to expand our services in New Zealand and America but the biggest news of all… *drumroll please*… We are proud to announce that we will be launching our fully funded Certificate II in Skills for Work & Vocational Pathways alongside ACE Community Colleges in the sunny state of Queensland!!! February 2018 will see a new group of Queensland trainers brought up to speed on the Bounce philosophy and programs will start rolling out in March 2018. We want to thank everyone at ACE Community Colleges and Bounce who worked so hard to get this new initiative off the ground. We know it’s going to change the lives of job seekers right across the state!

Any Queensland providers wanting to run a Bounce program next year can contact Matt Luttrell for more information on 0409 244 599.

From everyone here at Bounce, we want to thank all you wonderful people for joining us on this journey through 2017! For all those wanting to know our holiday closure information, Bounce will be closed for two weeks over the Christmas period, shutting up shop on Friday the 22nd of December and re-opening on Monday the 8th of January.

Now that the big news is all out in the open let’s take a look back down the road that was 2017. We’ve travelled, trained and grown more than we could ever have hoped for, we’ve even had a new little member join the family. Yes, we’re still glowing with happiness over little Max. But words and statistics are a bit dull for such a festive time of year – so we’ve put together a pretty cool infographic to explain it all! Take a look below!

Big News in a Little Package!

Big News in a Little Package!

This month we’re are proud to be announcing a different type of adventure. It’s not New Zealand or America but something a little closer to home. Welcome to the world, little Max Harold Mason! That’s right! The long awaited Bounce Baby has been born! In true Kelly style, she managed to take a half day off before little Max decided it was time to meet everyone. Although Kelly was set to finish work on Friday the 3rd of November and wasn’t due until Monday the 13th of November, Max fast tracked the process and was born on Thursday the 2nd of November at around 5pm, weighing in at a healthy 7lb 1oz.

Max became an instant celebrity in Maryborough and is already melting hearts. The “Hugs to Baby” ratio is definitely unbalanced with this little fella and trust me when I say we’ve all had a fair go! To Kelly and Guy, we want to say a HUGE congratulations on your little bundle of joy, we couldn’t be happier for the both of you!

Have you Heard

Remember in the first article when we said we weren’t going to talk about New Zealand? We may have fibbed a bit. But it’s for a good reason! Bounce Life Skills, our original non-accredited job seeker program, has been running in New Zealand for the last 2 months alongside the social enterprise, LIFT and has been featured in Hawke’s Bay Today Newspaper! The article explains Lift and how the Bounce Life skills Program is helping young job seekers get into the workforce. You can read this amazing article by clicking HERE.

Trainer of the Month

In the second last month of the year we want to feature a trainer who always gives 100 percent in everything she does. Described as a kind hearted, straight shooter, Pamela McConchie is loved and respected by job seekers and providers alike. Pamela adores animals, so much so that she actually brought a dog into her program once (which delighted everyone in attendance). Described by Chris, our Business Development Officer, as “The Mind Map Queen”, Pamela doesn’t hold back when it comes to decorating her training room with the most beautiful and colourful mind maps Bounce has ever seen! Thank you Pamela for brightening up the lives of everyone around you.

Tip of the Month

“Don’t wait for the new year to do something you really want to do. January 1st is just a date. Why do tomorrow what you can do today.”

Matt Turns 3!

Our spectacular National Business Manager, Matt Luttrell, hits his 3 year anniversary with Bounce this month! Boy, time has flown! It seems like just yesterday when Matt came to our office, fresh faced, hair gelled and briefcase in hand, ready to take on whatever challenges we threw at him. And yet, it’s like he’s always been here. He’s a much loved part of the furniture! Here are just a couple of quotes from his adoring fans (Bounce Trainers):

“You taught me to always do the hardest thing first so the rest of the day will be easy! Is that how you manage to get onto the golf course each day?!” – Bec

“Love the way you always call back with advice and encouragement in the midst of crazy situations.” – Cheryl

“Thank you for always promptly replying to me emails and go way and beyond your call of duty for everything.” – Dani

And of course: “Matt, you have the best hair and in general you are just a top bloke.” – Matt Luttrell… he’s a modest fella.

Happy Bounce Birthday Matt! We appreciate all the hard work you do every day and yes, your hair is amazing!

Changing Young Lives in New Zealand with LIFT

Alongside the Hawkes Bay’s new social enterprise, LIFT, Bounce has now completed its very first Bounce Life Skills Program in New Zealand. What an honour! I could write a whole 10 pages about the amazing things that went on during that program, but I think it’s best left to our talent trainer, Jacqui Tribe.

“What an amazing few weeks it’s been here in New Zealand. Just ten short days ago, eight young people volunteered to take part in the inaugural Bounce training in Napier, a relatively small town on the east coast of the North Island.
These young people face many issues. Added to low levels of education and high levels of unemployment; drugs, teenage pregnancy and suicide are rampant. They all walked in describing themselves as lonely, lost and unwanted. One in a state of panic. None over the age of 21 and all searching for something.
Day after day, they kept coming back. They laughed, they cried, they listened and they talked – often all at the same time which is what you do when you come from a family of ten kids! And they transformed.
All left with new knowledge, not only of themselves but others, all wanting to make a contribution to the world, all with hope and most importantly, a plan. One aiming on becoming a Chef, another an Early Childhood Educator, an Accountant, a Tattoo Artist, an Editor, an Art Teacher, another planning on Hotel Management and a Hair Stylist.
Eight young people. A million possibilities. One amazing program.”

Bounce is planning to build on our pilot program and help continue to change young lives across New Zealand.

Trainer of the Month

Our trainer of the month for October is one of our brightest burning lights of optimism and positivity. If you have been lucky enough to be in the same room and this wonderful gentleman, you will know exactly what we mean. Boris Banjanac can basically be described as a walking, talking, genuine smile. He sees the silver lining in every situation and his infectious energy never fails to spread throughout not only his classroom but the entire building that he is working in. You know you have a great trainer on your hands when someone talks about them and states, matter-of-factly, “he’s just one of those good people, you know?”. To Boris, everything is “beautiful” and when I asked what his favourite quote was, he told me “Be the creator of your own destiny. If you allow someone else to write it, you may not like the way it turns out. Take charge, create opportunities, and be happy.” And I think that sums him up pretty well. Thank you Boris for being you and giving the people courage to be themselves every single day!

Tip of the Month

“Never let the negative opinions of others bring you down. You know who you are and what you stand for, as long as you hold strong to that the only damage people can do is to themselves.”
– Maria Smith
